Campus Safety & Security Reporting Training

The purpose of this project was to provide an interactive online companion to The Handbook for Campus Crime Reporting, the Department of Education's comprehensive guide to the Clery Act, which requires all colleges and universities that participate in Federal financial aid programs to keep and disclose information about crime on and near their campuses. Westat worked with an IT subcontractor to design, develop, and implement web applications for the collection and dissemination of data.

Training for Federal Student Aid program reviewers, campus security officers, and other postsecondary administrators and staff was developed using HTML/CSS that incorporates animation and audio Flash files. The overall structure and code is 508 compliant. A custom Flash code was developed for the Flash audio and animation player in order to be read by a screen reader and display the timed captions.
